Your process is the product
Quoting, approvals or dealer pricing that a generic tool cannot model without workarounds.
Custom code vs templates · An honest comparison
Custom software makes sense when your process, your buyers or your integrations do not fit what a template or SaaS builder allows, and when you plan to rely on the system for years. If your needs are standard and the budget is tight, a ready-made tool is often the sensible start, and we will say so.
The real question
A ready-made product asks your team to work the way the product was designed. That is fine while your process is close to the average. It becomes expensive when staff keep side spreadsheets, copy data between tools by hand, or pay for a higher tier to get one feature.
Custom software turns that around: the system is written around how you quote, sell, approve and report. The cost is higher at the start, and you depend on the team that built it. That is why we put the price, the schedule and the ownership terms in writing before any work begins.
Side by side
A general comparison; individual products differ.
| Template or theme site | SaaS builder or platform | Custom software (Kodem) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upfront cost | Low | Low; monthly subscription | Higher; one-time project fee |
| Running cost | Hosting plus plugin and theme licences | Monthly fees, often per user or per feature tier | Fixed yearly fee from year two |
| Time to start | Fast | Fastest | Slower; milestones agreed in the contract |
| Fit to your process | Limited to what the theme and plugins allow | Limited to the vendor's settings | Written around your workflow |
| Speed and page weight | Often carries unused code | Depends on the vendor | Only what the project needs; measured at handover |
| Security | Widely known plugins are common targets | Handled by the vendor | Own codebase, no third-party plugins; updates by our team |
| Who changes it | You, or whoever you hire | You, within the vendor's limits | Our team, on your request by email or WhatsApp |
| If you leave | You keep the files | Export depends on the vendor | Content and data delivered in standard formats; domain already yours |
Custom does not win every row: it costs more at the start, takes longer to launch, and the source code stays with Kodem.
Where custom pays off
Quoting, approvals or dealer pricing that a generic tool cannot model without workarounds.
Accounting, ERP, CRM, logistics and messaging connected so data is entered once.
Dealers, staff and managers each see only what their role allows, with a record of who changed what.
Pages built for Core Web Vitals and checked with a Lighthouse report at handover, aiming for 90+.
English and Arabic on separate addresses, with a true right-to-left layout for Arabic.
No plugin ecosystem to patch; security updates and backups are part of our work.
Be honest with yourself
We do not use WordPress or ready-made themes; every project is written on our own codebase, and we maintain it ourselves.
Reducing the risk of custom
The common fear with custom software is a supplier who disappears halfway. These are the safeguards in every contract.
Questions
Because it is designed and written for one business rather than sold many times. In exchange, there are no per-user licences or paid feature tiers. From year two, websites have a fixed yearly fee of $200 and stores $400; business software is quoted by scope.
Not always. It depends on how many users you have, how much you would pay for subscriptions and add-ons, and how long you keep the system. We would rather walk through your numbers on a call than claim a general rule.
Kodem develops your software, hosts it on servers in Türkiye and keeps it up to date. The source code stays with Kodem. Your domain is registered in your name, and your content and data are always yours.
For websites, no: you send changes by email or WhatsApp and our team makes them. In stores, the order and stock screen is yours. In business software, your team uses the system daily, because it is your working tool.
Yes. We plan the data migration, keep the old system running until the new one is accepted, and for websites prepare a 301 redirect map so existing addresses lead to their new pages.
